THE DINING ROOM REVEAL IS HERE – ORC WEEK 8

A dining table with greenery in the middle, boucle chairs and a yellow pendant hanging overhead.

It’s reveal day for the dining room and I’m over the moon with it! Mainly because I love every inch of the place, but also because I finished the One Room Challenge on time for once! The last few weeks have been stress city here as everything takes longer than you’d think. But we got there in the end and the result is gorgeous! Before we get into it, let’s check out the before pics so we can truly appreciate how far it’s come.

The Before

While the kitchen was looking well 8 weeks ago, the dining area was looking a bit rough and ready.

Found this old photo of where the old kitchen used to be before we knocked down a few walls! The peninsula is where the wall with the Besta cabinets are hanging now. The main part of the old kitchen is now the utility.

The Table

So let’s start with the table. It had an old orange stain on it and after sanding it back and whitening it a little, it came up a dream. The leather chairs were a bit too modern for me, plus there was a bit of wear and tear showing but they were still sooooo comfortable. So we made chair covers instead of getting new ones. The boucle really brightens the place up while adding a bit of texture. You can check out the tutorial for them here.

The Most Gorgeous Yellow Light

This light deserves a spotlight. I love, love, love the pop of yellow it brings to the room. A bit of fun! And it came with that mustard cord which I think really adds a bit of oomph! Plus, that rattan is sooooo pretty lit up at night.

The Picture Light Wall

This wall was completely blank and I always planned on adding a wine rack. But when we hung the painting (which my mom painted by the way!!!!) it seemed like it was floating aimlessly. It needed something the ground it. So I hacked an Ikea Besta cabinet and added some metal shelving instead of the usual wine rack. It looks much better and the storage is already so handy! Win win! The Radiator Covers

These radiator covers almost broke me to make. So many things went wrong, right from the beginning. But they do look great and I’m thankful to say the heat still comes through really well. Functional and looks good…happy days! We’ve had this scratch map for years but couldn’t find a frame as the size is out of the norm. I was insistent on getting up on the wall so I made a frame for is using simple wooden slats. Already it’s been the starter of so many conversations when people visit it. I love that!

This room, while much brighter than what it was before the renovations. Still doesn’t get a huge amount of natural light. So it was tricky enough to choose a colour on the walls that was cosy, yet still allowed the room to be as bright as possible. I had a sample pot of this Coco 1955 by Fleetwood already. It’s a little pinker than I initally thought it would be. Or maybe the curtains are adding to it too, but either way, it’s perfect! What do you think of the dining room reveal? Let me know in the comments below!

Don’t forget to check out all the rest of the One Room Challenge reveals right here. They all looks amazing! So delighted I took part, it really gave me the push I needed to sort out this room! Now…which room next?! 😉
