Oh, I’m so excited about this hallway mood board!!! It’s the last room downstairs that needs a full makeover and it’s starting today!! When we first moved in, the walls were painted orange, with terracotta and cream floor tiles. So, we gave the walls a quick coat of paint and a few years ago, we changed the downstairs doors and trim as well as laying laminate flooring. But I think you’ll agree – it still looks pretty awful. It’s the first thing people see when they come into our house and it’s not exactly making a good impression! This hallway mood board started with the stairs runner and the paint colours that followed are dreamy! Plus that arched mirror is a thing of beauty!
Here’s what it look like now!

So, what needs to be done:
Stairs:
This will have the biggest transformation and will be the focal point of the whole room. If you saw my instagram stories, you’ll know that I picked the most beautiful striped carpet as a runner for the stairs. The entire stairs is going to be painted a dark reddish-brown and the door for storage under the stairs is going to be hidden.
Walls:
I’m keeping the dado rail, but I’m painting it to match the walls. I’ve decided to go with two different shades of white. One colour under the dado rail and a lighter colour above. I’m also hoping to add loads of artwork to the walls. I’m currently gathering all the artwork we have in house to see what I can use, but I’m thinking of printing this too!
Radiator and fuse box:
Both of these are going to be covered using the same method I used in the dining room. (I better make sure to cut them at the right angle this time!) The plan will be, like the dining room, to paint the covers to match the wall.
Front door:
This is going to be painted (a gorgeous green colour!) and I’m hoping to update the glass to a more modern look.
Everything else:
Lots of bits from this hallway mood board have been ordered and some things have already arrived (like the mirror that’s less than €150!) We are thinking a console table for the top of the stairs, light fixtures, a rug (here’s the one I’m considering), lamps…the list goes on! I’ll be sharing the links of everything here on the blog!
Have I got everything covered??!
A big reason for starting the hallway makeover right now, is to try and have it finished before the middle of November – which is when Trevor has a big birthday!😉 We will have people staying and it’s the perfect excuse to get the hallway sorted! Nothing like having people visit to push yourself to get stuff done!
The timing also coincides with the One Room Challenge. This is worldwide challenge, though mostly based in the US, where people choose a room to give a makeover. Everyone spends 8 weeks working on the room and then everyone’s project is revealed on the same day. It’s nice to have other people all aiming to finish a room as the same time as you- it keeps the momentum going a bit! I’ve done this with the dining room, guest room and the sitting room. Though to be honest, I never got the sitting room fully finished last year – it’s 90% there. Maybe I’ll be doing two room reveals in November! 😂
