We do have a lot of storage space in our Ikea Pax wardrobes, more than I thought we would to be honest. But I will never say no to another place to put my shoes! Our bay window in the master bedroom provides the perfect little nook for a chest of drawers. Ikea have a set price to deliver regardless of how much you buy, so I added the Songesand to our wardrobe order. I knew I was going to have black frames for the artwork so the handles on the drawers would match perfectly! But before putting it together, I decided to add a little colour by adding some wallpapered drawers. On a side note, click here if you would like to see how I DIYed the bedside table you can spot in the background!
Step one to Wallpapered Drawers
Buy beautiful wallpaper! I got this one but there were lots of lovely ones to choose from. (Bonus tip: On that website you can get 5% off your first order if you sign up for their newsletter and right now there’s free delivery to Ireland!)
Step two
Cut out the shape of the drawer using a utility knife. Don’t forget to cut a little holes for where the screws will go later.
Step three
I used wallpaper paste to stick on the wallpaper (shocking I know! :)) However, be warned that it doesn’t stick very well to the laminate. It’s perfect for what I want as nothing will be touching it but I doubt it would hold as well if the inside of the drawer was wallpapered. I used this wallpaper paste. It was grand and cheap, though maybe search for stronger stuff if you’re pasting a high traffic area! I stacked them on top of each other to add pressure while drying.
Step four
Here I put the drawers in the right order so that the pattern flowed from one drawer to the next. I had about three drawers wallpapered before realising that so there are a few mixed up but no biggie!
Step five
Putting together the Songesand was actually pretty easy. Adding the handles was so much easier than on the Pax wardrobe as the holes were pre-made. It’s like a little hidden surprise when I open the drawers now, love it!
