THE LOVE(SEAT) OF MY LIFE!

Living room with a ref brick wall, navy velet couch and a wooden dresser.

Loveseat, two-seater, whatever you want to call it, it’s a handy size if you’re stuck for space. Which is exactly the case for us right now. Designing the kitchen, we left as big a space as possible near the sliding doors so we could squeeze in a little couch. We ended up with a width of 2m, which is great but we wanted a couch a bit smaller than that, for two reasons.

Firstly, it’s always better to have a bit of room around couches to avoid the squashed looked. Even if your couch is pushed up against the wall, try pulling it out a few inches, it will look so much better. Secondly, I wanted to make sure there was enough space for a teeny side table….there is NOTHING worse than having no place to put down a cup of tea! 😉

Fabric couch options

So I went on the hunt for a quirky little couch, preferably with a velvet feel. Let me show you my top contenders…

A pink velet couch with a yellow and grey throw.

Most of the pink couches I found were a pastel, very pale pink. I wasn’t a fan. Loved the richer colour of this one from Pieces.ie

A black velvet couch against a palm tree wallpaper background.

Thought the shape of this one looked kinda cool but when I went into DFS the cushions weren’t as soft as I wanted. Also, the black velvet showed up every bit of fluff and dust FYI!!

Finline furniture, which has a few shops around Ireland is amazing. You choose the couch you want from the showroom and are given a huge choice fabrics to upholster it in. This Sebastian couch was one of the most streamlined ones on offer and I just loved that coral velvet. It was so soft to the touch! The cool thing is, you can choose your exact measurements and it’s made bespoke. It’s that bit more expensive but if you’re stuck for a particular size, this could be very handy!

A second option from DFS. Liked the shape of this one, especially the legs. There are a few colour options for this couch and the price was pretty good too!

A yellow velvet loveseat with brass legs.

This yellow beauty is stunning!!!!!!! And I absolutely loved the shape of it. This was my favourite fabric couch but I just couldn’t bring myself to buy online without knowing how comfortable it was. Have any of you been brave enough to buy chairs or couches online??

Decision made!

There were so many other gorgeous two-seaters, but the mainly fabrics on offer were dark green and navy, which I thought would look too dark against the black kitchen cabinets. In the end, I realised that a leather couch would just be perfect. (And I did have leather barstools in my moodboard so I was sure the look would work!) It adds a bit a colour, not too dark and also something organic to the space, which is needed when you have white walls and a black kitchen!

Some gorgeous leather couches coming at ya!…

A brown leather two seater couch.

Loved the colour and shape of this one from Pod Furniture. The only problem was it was a little too big for my space!

A dark brown leather two seater couch.

This beaut was another one I almost bought in Ezliving. I was pretty torn actually as it was sooooo comfortable. A smidge too big, but I probably would have got away with it. A definite contender!

But here she is, our chosen one from Ezliving!!!!! Excuse the terrible photo, but believe it or not, it’s so much nicer than the one on the website! We eventually narrowed our choices down to this stunner for a few reasons. The leather is so soft…buttery soft! The colour is perfect, rich but not too dark. Love those brass legs. I made sure to pick a couch on legs to make it feel as airy/light as possible. The shape is pretty simple and classic so I don’t see it dating anytime soon.

Buying a leather couch?

And finally any scratches I saw on the couch made it look lived in and almost original to the piece. I know leather couches scratch easily and weirdly enough I’m perfectly happy with that. But there were a few other couches I saw where the scratches just did not wear so well. Maybe it’s to do with the quality of the leather, I’m not sure. But it’s worth keeping in mind if you’re looking for a leather couch. Also don’t forget you will need to condition leather once or twice a year to keep it really soft. I’ll definitely be doing this as it’s really close to a radiator so I don’t want it drying out or cracking – heat should be avoided but I don’t really have a choice here!

So there you have it folks! If you’re looking for a couch I’d recommend browsing these above websites for some great options. Due to Covid, the lead times on couches are pretty long, so get cracking if you haven’t bought yet. Ours is due in Christmas week, so fingers crossed it will arrive! Can’t wait to see it in place!!!!!!
