Is it just me or has the first week of the One Room Challenge just flown?! My first job was to clear everything out of the room. It had become a complete dumping ground and it felt great to give it a good cleaning! In the beginning, I thought this room was in very good condition but when I looked closely there were lots of little holes to fill. I tend to be a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to smoothness of the walls! We removed and filled an aerial socket that was no longer needed. In this house, preparing the wall for painting always takes so much longer than the painting itself. While redecorating our own bedroom we found 32 holes in the wall that needed filling! Seriously, what were the previous owners thinking?! Polyfilla is now my new best friend!
Next Step
I repainted the ceiling white. I just used standard flat white ceiling paint that I already had. FYI – If you ever use Woodies ceiling paint, do not have a panic if it looks grey. It actually dries perfectly white and on the plus side, it’s handy to see where you paint! Using a wooden board and a level, I then drew a straight line across the entire room, approx. 50cm down from the ceiling. I continued the white ceiling paint down to this line.
And Finally…
My next job was to choose the lower wall paint. When you look at the moodboard you can see I had yellow in mind. There weren’t many deep yellow paints to choose from, but thankfully Colourtrend came up trumps! Torc is a beautiful mustardy yellow and it was exactly what I had in mind. I chose a mild sheen finish and I also bought matching paint for the woodwork and radiator. I painted everything under that line yellow. While painting the Torc onto the wall, I couldn’t stop smiling! It’s such a fun colour!!
The plan for next week is to build a base for a double bed and start shopping for some of the items I’ll be needing later in the project…lamps, shelving, full length mirror, bench, the list goes one! Don’t forget to check out some of the amazing featured designers, as well as some other guest participants on the official One Room Challenge website!
