OUR TINY BATHROOM REVEAL – IT PACKS A BIG PUNCH!

A tiny bathroom with a wallpaper mural on all four walls, a shiplap ceiling and black and white geometric tiles.

Wow, wow, wow!!! You know when you finish a room and each time you pass by, you do a little stop and stare? That’s basically been me all day! 🙂 The ceiling, the light, that wallpaper – I love it all!!!! Especially considering this was a budget bathroom makeover!! (Scroll to see the price breakdown!) The light was the only thing that changed from the initial mood board, but I think it made the design even better! Let’s get into it…

The Wallpaper

Ok, this is really the star of the show and it did take up almost the ENTIRE budget, but totally worth it! I was looking for a vintage style, nature inspired wallpaper and I almost bought this one! But when I saw the trees here, they sparked some serious joy! The Etsy shop was so helpful, changing the layout of the design a little, so I could get as much of the tree line in as possible. They also gave me a little discount because the height of the ceiling was so low, I didn’t need full rolls of wallpaper!

Hanging it was difficult – I do think peel and stick wallpaper is more difficult to hang, but I have a tutorial here! It’s definitely best to have two people hanging it, especially when you begin a new roll. And we won’t even talk about my big mistake leading to a gap at the top of one of the walls! Thankfully it’s all covered up with trim now and it looks like it should always have been there!

The Ceiling

I was dying to try out a shiplap ceiling somewhere! As this room was so small, I thought it would make a feature of the sloped ceiling and really draw the eye upwards. For the most part, it was easy enough to DIY. I did get a bit of a mental block when it came to cutting around the architrave, but I got there in the end! I have the tutorial for that one right here! At €32, this added so much to the room and helped to keep the budget in check!

The Mirror

This mirror was left in the house when we bought it. I painted it a few years ago, but to keep within budget, I stripped it back and stained it. You can find all the details here.

The Light and Other Decor

The light shade was an absolute find on Donedeal. I later took a picture of it with Google Lens and it found the shade online selling for €250 on a vintage site!!!! Couldn’t be happier about that!!! I think it keeps the room from looking too old fashioned. I also kept the accessories modern too – like the metal tray on the toilet (similar one here). I bought the toilet roll holder years ago on holidays and the only ones almost identical are on Etsy, but they seem to be on the expensive side! Oh and do you remember the beautiful hand towel I bought in London?! I was obsessed with West Elm for a few weeks after that visit! Finally, I bought these flameless candles in Meadows and Byrne, but they seem to be sold out at the moment. Here is something similar for a great price!

The Budget

When we renovated the kitchen, we put new floor tiles down and installed new taps in the sink. We also reused a pedestal from another toilet to hide all the pipework. It was a big improvement, but the room was far from being finished! This year, I wanted to give the bathroom the makeover it deserved and I gave myself a budget of €300. How did I get on?

  • Wallpaper – €270 I wasn’t expecting to spend that much on the wallpaper AT ALL! But I couldn’t say no it! It meant I had to be really frugal for everything else!
  • Ceiling – €32 I only spent money on the MDF, as I had the primer and paint already!
  • Light shade – €5
  • Mirror – €0 See above
  • Decor – €20

Total: €327 – Considering the price of the wallpaper, I think it’s a pretty good deal!

So tell me guys – which part of this budget bathroom makeover is you favourite? I’m still trying to decide between the wallpaper and the light! Both are just so dreamy!!!
