It’s been a long time coming, but I can finally show you our kitchen mood board! The builder started Monday and wow, the progress made in just a few short days is mind boggling!! Now that the walls have been torn down, the place feels so big! I need to make quick decisions, constantly. Scary guys, it’s scary! Keep an eye on my Instagram stories, cause I’m giving you lots of progress reports!!
Now let’s see how I put this mood board together. The first thing I always do is decide what mood or feeling I want to create. Then, I gather a few inspiration pics from Pinterest or Instagram. You can check out my Pinterest page here … there is a HUGE collection of my faves. (Was anyone else addicted to Pinterest for a while?) Finally, I start with one piece I know for sure will be in the room. That might be a new piece of artwork or maybe the couch already in the corner. Then, I start gathering items and colours that will match well to it.
Atmosphere
After spending the last four years in such a dark kitchen, bright is the first word that springs to mind. I’m dreaming of chilling out in a kitchen where I don’t have to turn on the light at 2 o’ clock in the day!! I also love the idea of the room being inviting and relaxing. So I’m thinking comfy places to sit, interesting things to look at…a place where you want to stop, chat and have a cup of tea. I think my decor taste is a mixture between modern and classic. I’ll have to make sure I stick to that, so the house feels cohesive.
Inspiration
Chris Loves Julia’s kitchen stopped me in my tracks a few years. It was love at first sight and absolutely the inspiration for our black kitchen. If you are not following them, you are seriously missing out!! I’m also besotted with this kitchen by John and Jean Stoffer. I even tried to convince Trevor we should have stainless steel countertops. He was having none of it! 🙂
Starting Point
I was given this painting as a birthday present from my mother. SHE PAINTED THIS!!!!! Isn’t it just beautiful? She knew I drooled over all the old, gorgeous doors in Cyprus, wishing I could bring one home. So she painted me one instead!! Up close, there are some pinks and of course greens. So those colours, along with the black kitchen and wood floors, are the starting point of the mood board. I’m on the lookout for a rug right now, as I won’t be painting or buying any big furniture pieces until I know they will all work together. It’s always hard to buy a rug, but waiting until the end can make it even harder!
So that’s my thought process behind the whole thing. You saw on my post last week I have plans to renovate the garden, tiny bathroom and utility. Get ready for (hopefully!) lots of inspo this year! If you fancy making your own mood board, try Canva. It’s pretty basic but free and easy to use.
Awesome post! Keep up the great work! 🙂
