Finding the Right Bed Linen

You might not know this about me but I’m pretty lazy. in fact, I have never in my life ironed bed linen and that is a habit I intend on continuing!! Knowing this, I searched for duvet covers that were non-iron but unfortunately, any ones I found were pretty boring. In the end I bought gorgeous bed linen and I have now realised the key is texture!

The more texture on the cover, the less noticeable the wrinkles are! Plus there’s the added benefit of it adding a pattern, even when I want to keep the colour plain white. These beautiful ones are from Dunnes Stores, but for some reason I cannot for the life of me find the link anywhere on their website! So sorry about that, but to make up for it I’m going to show you some other gorgeous options! Only a couple are textured, (because I know some people do actually use their iron!) but they are all beautiful!

I was really impressed with the patterned bedding in River Island, the Pink Heron above being my fav. I spotted that beautiful Artist’s Palette by West Elm in Arnotts last summer. It was a little out of my budget but a girl can dream! The Textured Diamond is the closet I could find to my own…I do love plain white. I found the other three options on Next which has a great selection of bedding.

Top Tips

  • When you’re looking at thread counts don’t worry too much. Anything over 300 and you’re sorted!
  • Warm flannel, easycare polycotton and delicate silk are some of the most popular materials for bed linen and choosing which is absolutely a personal choice. There’s no wrong answer! (FYI, to stay cool and comfortable, cotton is my choice)
  • If having bed linen looking really plump matters to you, I’ve heard buying a duvet a size larger than the cover really makes it full looking and gorgeous!
  • Don’t fill your bed with unneeded pillows/cushions…nobody has time for that in the morning! One or max two decorative ones are all you need to make your bed look fabulous!
  • Pillows are important and everyone has personal preference for this too, depending on whether you sleep on your back, side or front. If you need a starting place, Homestore and More have a great choice.
  • Now, I have yet to try but I have heard lots of people raving about the Francis Brennan sheets in Dunnes. Expensive yes, but could be worth it?! Let me know if the rumours are true!

Now that the bed linen and artwork is sorted, this master bedroom is getting pretty close to finishing!!

Yes Frances Brennan’s sheets nice in summer as light. I have some. Still have to iron them. I always iron my sheets anyway. Don’t like a fitted sheet as impossible to iron . I use double none fitted sheets on a King size bed as far too much material with King size. Easy to fold and iron. More flexible.
I inherited old Belfast pure linen sheets from my in-laws which are a luxury. Rare to find.

Oh lucky to have inherited those! A great tip about using a double non-fitted sheet on a king bed – thanks for sharing!
