A BATHROOM MIRROR UPDATE, PLUS A FEW OF MY FAVOURITE SMALL MIRRORS!

You might have seen on my stories during the week, that work on our tiny bathroom under the stairs has begun!! The walls and woodwork has been prepped and ready for painting and wallpaper. Plus the MDF has been cut and painted, now ready to be attached to the ceiling…I just need to figure out how to do that!!! I didn’t have a mirror on my bathroom mood board. I guess I wasn’t exactly sure for the look I was going for. But I’ve decided to stay on budget and give the old one a bit of an update.

How It Started

This mirror was left by the previous owners. It had an orange stain on it, which I then painted over, as you can see above. So you could call this update number two! I used the electric sander to get as much paint off as I possibly could. After switching to hand sanding, I shortly gave up and decided to try a paint stripper. FYI: Layer paint stripper on THICK!!! My first two coats didn’t work properly and it was only when I put an obscene amount of stripper on, did it finally work!

How It Finished

I was torn between a light and a dark stain for this. But after seeing it with the wallpaper – and with your opinions Instagram, I decided to go for the light! Which would you have chosen? I used the same stain as when I updated our dining room table. (It’s kinda funny when you look back on your own website to remember how to use it!) I’m delighted with how it turned out and I cannot wait to see it against the wallpaper!!!!

I’ve put together some options of small mirrors that would look great in a bathroom (or anywhere!).

  5. Love the look of this black and ratten mirror. La Redoute. €189.19

6. You can’t go wrong with an arched mirror. Comes in full length too! Marks and Spencer. €140

7. In case you’re looking for a round mirror with a more neutral trim! HM Home. €50

8. We’re heading for the more luxury mirrors here and it doesn’t get better than LED lighting AND a heated mirror!!! Bathworks. €345

9. I hadn’t seen an LED mirror using the hanging strap decor before. Fab! Woodies. €270

10. A simple rectangular LED with a black trim. Woodies. €270

While researching these mirrors, I came across this device which I hadn’t seen before. It allows you to convert a regular mirror into a heated mirror – as long as you can connect it to electricity! The reviews seem good and it’s a steal at €45!!
