2019’s To Do List

To do list in picture form. A kitchen, a garden, a utility and a master bedroom makeover.

I know, I know…January is nearly over so it’s about time I posted this list! This year is going to be a big one for our house and I’m hoping that creating this list will keep me motivated even when the last thing I’ll want to do is paint ANOTHER wall! There are four main areas I want to tackle and the above are four matching inspiration pics I am in LOVE with! Click on these links to find out more about that beautiful kitchen, budget-friendly laundry room and a calming bedroom.

The Kitchen

Honestly, I’m terrified of starting this. We have been thinking, planning and of course, saving for this, for the last few years. I can only hope that it turns out as wonderful in real life as I imagine it to be!!

The last owners added a small extension which holds a utility room, bathroom and currently a music room. These rooms lead out onto our back garden, which is small but has lots of greenery. At the moment though, we can’t see any of this garden from the main living area due to the current layout.

What we want is to knock most of the internal walls, one of which is a structural wall. Then build a small, but functional utulity room where the current kitchen stands. We already have a tiny bathroom under the stairs so we don’t need to replace that. Finally the music room will be moved to a spare room upstairs. (He’ll freak out that I’m saying this 😉 but my husband is AMAZING at playing guitar/singing and he has lots of instruments and audio equipment that have to go somewhere! To be honest we are considering building a small extension for this music room in the future, but we are going to see how it works upstairs for now.)

This will allow for a huge dining, kitchen and seating area that will look out onto the garden. It has an easterly aspect so there will be lots of light in the morning but not so much for the rest of the day. But we have skylights so I’m hoping it will still be fabulously bright throughout the day. Fingers crossed anyway!

There will of course be new floors going down. Not just in this kitchen area, but we are going to continue it to all of downstairs. So you could say the rest of downstairs is getting a refresh too. Phew, I’m tired just listing all the things we have to do!

The Back Garden

I highly doubt we will get anything actually landscaped outside, but my plan here is to make a solid plan! This always takes me a long time to finalize, especially when it comes to the house because I like to overthink everything!!!! We will be putting in large glass exterior doors that will lead out from the kitchen to the back garden. So, I’m sure this will give me the encouragement needed to start sorting out the garden of our house. I’m thinking the plan will include a seating area, a firepit and some really pretty outdoor lighting.

Utility Room

(Or laundry room if you don’t live in Ireland!) This will be quite small but I’m hoping that with a lot of thought it can be very functional. I’ve been watching you-tube videos of small spaces decorated by Ikea and wow…it’s inspirational and seemingly achievable! Because it will be a small room, I want to have a bit of fun in here and splash out on colour! I’m thinking I might DIY my own backsplash here, not sure yet though!

Master Bedroom

This I have actually already started! You can see my moodboard here. We removed the previous wardrobes and built Ikea Pax ones instead. They are gorgeous!!!! The room has been painted and I have just finished DIYing our bedside tables – you can see the post for that here. I must still paint a small wardrobe, hang artwork, add trim around the wardrobes, get lamps and some other decor pieces to really make it pretty. I’ll be posting about it as I go and it will hopefully be completely finished in the next few weeks.

So there we have it…looking back on this list at the end of the year will be fun and hopefully very satisfying!! Have you any to-do lists made for 2019? Leave a comment – I’d love to hear all about them!!
